Job summary

Olmsted Medical Center in Rochester, MN is seeking a phlebotomist for a 1.0 FTE day shift. The role involves venipuncture, specimen collection, LIS documentation, and waived testing as applicable, with a focus on patient safety and accurate processing.

Minimum qualifications include phlebotomy experience with preferred BLS certification within 90 days of hire and familiarity with medical terminology. A comprehensive benefits package is provided to eligible employees.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates proficiency in phlebotomy collection techniques including venipuncture and capillary puncture.
• Collects specimens and prepares them for testing per LIS requirements.
• Performs waived testing as applicable and documents results accurately.
• Ensures patient safety and proper specimen handling following protocols.
• Assists with new employee orientation and training as needed.
• Maintains a clean and safe work environment and adheres to standard precautions.
• Processes patient orders efficiently and maintains LIS documentation.
• Supports lab operations and communications with care teams.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Starting Pay - $20.57 - $30.86 (Based on Experience)

Minimum Qualifications

• Medical terminology preferred
• Computer data entry skills preferred
• Phlebotomy experience/certification preferred
• Previous laboratory experience preferred

Job Responsibilities

• Demonstrates proficiency in phlebotomy collection techniques and patient management, including venipuncture, capillary puncture, and (as applies) arterial puncture and therapeutic phlebotomy.
• Demonstrates proficiency in patient preparation and specimen collection techniques for throat culture, urine, and other requested specimens.
• Demonstrates proficiency in waived level testing for immunology, urinalysis, chemistry, and hematology (as applies).
• Demonstrates proficiency in documenting patient specimen flow in Laboratory Information System (LIS).
• Processes specimens according to requirements, including preparation of specimens for dispatch to external labs as needed.
• Maintains a safe work environment and complies with standards for safe practice and standard precautions.
• Assists with new employee orientation and training.
• Performs other duties as requested.
