McLaren Health Care in Port Huron, MI is seeking a reliable phlebotomy technician to join our in-house laboratory team. You will perform specimen collection by phlebotomy from the correct patient at in-house or off-site locations, instruct patients, and enter specimens into hospital information systems.

Essential functions include collecting and processing specimens, verifying patient data, maintaining safety and infection control, performing waived tests, and supporting quality control

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Preferred: Phlebotomy technician certification.
• Experience drawing blood or phlebotomy training.
• Previous experience in a clinical laboratory environment.

Responsabilités

• Performs proper specimen collection (blood and non-blood) with patient preparation, labeling, handling, preservation, processing, transportation, and storage.
• Collects, verifies, and processes patient data and test orders into hospital/LIS systems, including ABN compliance.
• Processes specimens according to established guidelines.
• Maintains safe, clean work environment and adheres to infection-control and hazardous waste policies.
• Performs waived tests and supports other testing platforms under technical oversight.
• Assists in quality control and performance improvement activities.

The McLaren system includes 12 hospitals across the state, ambulatory surgery centers, imaging centers, a 730-member employed primary and specialty care physician network, commercial and Medicaid HMOs covering more than 242,000 Michigan lives, home health, infusion and hospice providers, pharmacy services, a clinical laboratory network, and a wholly owned medical malpractice insurance company. Performs all specimen collection by phlebotomy from the correct individual at in-house or off-site locations. In addition, obtains other specimens when indicated, and instructs patients in the collection of specimens as necessary. May be required to enter pathology specimens into various computerized information systems along with the preparation and staining of cytology specimens. Performs tasks in all laboratory areas under the direction of the appropriate supervisor, clinical laboratory technologists, cytotechnologists or other designated laboratory personnel and has appropriate knowledge and training of those areas so as to be able to function as necessary.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

1. Performs proper specimen collection [blood and non-blood], including patient preparation, labeling, handling, preservation or fixation, processing or preparation, transportation, and storage of specimens; complies with all standards for laboratory procedures.
2. Collects, verifies, and processes patient registration data and test order/entry into hospital information system/laboratory information system, including ABN compliance.
3. Processes specimens according to established guidelines.
4. Maintains safe and clean working environment and protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control, hazardous waste and other policies and protocols.
5. Performs waived tests and assists in other testing platforms with technical oversight.
6. Assists in quality control and performance improvement activities.

Required:

• High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred:

• Certified as a phlebotomy technician.


• Previous experience drawing blood or phlebotomy training course in approved program.


• Previous experience in a clinical laboratory environment.
