Job summary

University Hospitals is seeking a Laboratory Support Technician/Phlebotomist to perform specimen procurement and processing, supporting laboratory operations and PHI protection. The role focuses on phlebotomy, data entry, and efficient handling of specimens to meet turnaround times.

The position requires a high school diploma or GED and phlebotomy training; CPT certification is preferred. The role may involve cross-training and providing guidance to other staff in a fast-paced laboratory

Qualifications

  • Certified Phlebotomy Technician certification is preferred at hire.

Laboratory Support Technician/Phlebotomist - ( 260005CG )

PRN position

A Brief Overview

Performs specimen procurement and/or processing of laboratory specimens. Provides laboratory support functions.

What You Will Do
  • Organizes and performs tasks efficiently to meet departmental turnaround time standards.
  • Performs computer data entry, laboratory processes including sterile technique, aliquoting and/or phlebotomy
  • Processes specimens for laboratory testing
  • Competent in the collection or processing of specialized samples.
  • Performs with minimal error rate.
  • Acts as a trainer and is a resource to other Specimen Processor Phlebotomists.
  • Needs minimal supervision and problems solves with little or no supervision.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.
  • For specific duties and responsibilities, refer to documentation provided by the department during orientation.
  • Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.
Education
  • High School Equivalent / GED (Required) and
  • Other Accredited Program: Formal Training from an accredited phlebotomy school or medical assistant program (preferred) (Preferred)
Work Experience
  • 1+ years phlebotomy experience (Required) or
  • 1+ years specimen processing experience (Required) or
  • less than 1 year Funding Healthcare Futures Program Participant (entry level) (Required)

  • Competent on venipuncture, heel stick, and fingerstick for all ages.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) Phlebotomy Certification (preferred) (Preferred Upon Hire)
