Qualifications

  • 1+ years of phlebotomy or specimen processing experience required, or entry-level Healthcare Futures participant.

Overview

Laboratory Support Technician - (260001I6). Schedule is three 8-hour shifts per week with an every-other-week rotation.

Responsibilities
  • Performs specimen procurement and/or processing of laboratory specimens. Provides laboratory support functions.
  • Organizes and performs tasks efficiently to meet departmental turnaround time standards.
  • Performs computer data entry and laboratory processes including sterile technique, aliquoting and/or phlebotomy.
  • Processes specimens for laboratory testing.
  • Competent in the collection or processing of specialized samples.
  • Performs with minimal error rate.
  • Acts as a trainer and is a resource to other Specimen Processor Phlebotomists.
  • Works with minimal supervision and problem-solves with little or no supervision.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.
  • For specific duties and responsibilities, refer to documentation provided by the department during orientation.
  • Abides by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for patients. Annual training and UH policies and procedures address the appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.
Education
  • High School Equivalency / GED (Required)
  • Other Accredited Program: Formal Training from an accredited phlebotomy school or medical assistant program (preferred)
Work Experience
  • 1+ years phlebotomy experience (Required) or
  • 1+ years specimen processing experience (Required) or
  • Less than 1 year Funding Healthcare Futures Program Participant (entry level) (Required)
