Job summary

UPMC is seeking a dedicated Laboratory Support Technician to join the Autumated Testing Lab team at UPMC Passavant – McCandleless. You will assist with specimen processing, preparation, and handling across chemistry, hematology, urinalysis and microbiology to support testing operations.

The role emphasizes accuracy, initiative, and collaborative care in a fast-paced hospital setting. Daily duties include maintaining supplies, ensuring a safe work environment, and aiding with QA/QC activities

Responsibilities

Specimen processing and support across chemistry, hematology, urinalysis, and microbiology, gaining exposure to multiple lab disciplines.
Receive, sort, prepare, and distribute specimens for testing, including aliquoting and instrument loading/unloading.
Verify specimen acceptability and investigate processing issues as they arise.
Monitor pending worklists and resolve unprocessed specimens.
Assist with specimen and slide storage and retrieval.
Prepare microscopic slides and basic microbiology specimen setup where applicable.
Answer incoming calls and provide status updates on specimens and reports.
