Job summary

UnityPoint Health in Des Moines is seeking a Laboratory Support Technician to join our clinical team. You will process laboratory specimens for testing, ensure specimen acceptability, and enter patient and test data into the information system, supporting timely and accurate results.

You will respond to information requests from customers and help coordinate lab workflow, contributing to high-quality patient care in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Phlebotomy experience required.
• Training as a unit clerk, medical assistant or medical secretary is preferred.
• Must be able to read, write, and speak fluent English.

Responsibilities

• Processes laboratory specimens for testing and evaluates specimen acceptability.
• Enters patient and test information into the computer and responds to information requests.
• Monitors test requests in the order/entry system and contributes to patient care through accurate specimen processing.

Responsibilities

The Laboratory Support Technician (LST) processes laboratory specimens for testing, evaluates specimen acceptability, enters patient and test information into the computer, and responds to requests for information from customers. This position serves in the Laboratory's main communication and customer relations center. The employee monitors test requests in the order/entry system. This position contributes directly to patient care by accurately and timely processing specimens and dispersing information both in and outside the Laboratory.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent. Phlebotomy experience required. Training as a unit clerk, medical assistant, medical secretary is preferred. Coursework in biology and/or chemistry is considered.Must be able to read, write, and speak fluent English
