Job description

An educational platform on tribology — the science of friction, wear and lubrication

Who is it for

Engineers, researchers, students and industry professionals

Laboratory Supervisor (Research Specialist III)

The Ardeshir Lab at the Tulane National Biomedical Research Center (Covington, LA) studies microbiome-immune interactions, brain aging, and durable therapeutics using nonhuman primate models. Our externally funded, multi-project program asks how biology is programmed across the lifespan, and spans immunology, infectious disease, neuroscience, and translational research.

The role

We are hiring a Laboratory Supervisor I (posted at Tulane as Research Specialist III, Job ID 354) to act as the senior operational coordinator across our studies. This is a hybrid operations-and-research position: you will run bench work and also keep several concurrent studies organized, compliant, and on schedule. You will run daily operations independently and with real authority. It is a strong fit if you enjoy owning study logistics and data quality, not just a single narrow assay.

What you will do
  • Coordinate nonhuman primate studies end to end: scheduling, sample collection, processing, and biobanking
  • Run multicolor flow cytometry: panel design, acquisition, compensation, and analysis
  • Execute and optimize immunoassays and molecular workflows (RNA extraction, RT-qPCR, NGS library prep) and generate publication-quality data
  • Own regulatory documentation and compliance under IACUC and IBC oversight
  • Handle biological materials under BSL-2 containment
  • Work day to day with the Division of Veterinary Medicine, external sponsors, and collaborating labs
  • Supervise, train, and mentor lab personnel in immunological, molecular, and sample-processing techniques
  • Contribute to manuscripts and grant preparation
  • Manage lab logistics: ordering, inventory, equipment, and study records
What we require
  • Bachelor’s degree in a biological science or equivalent, plus 3 years of experience in a biomedical research facility
  • Hands-on experience processing primary biological samples
  • Multicolor flow cytometry experience, from panel design through analysis, run independently
  • Ability to run immunoassays independently, including troubleshooting and optimization
  • Demonstrated organization: you can keep multiple studies and timelines on track without being chased
What will make you stand out
  • FACS sorting, spatial platforms (CosMx SMI), or confocal microscopy experience
  • Experience writing or maintaining IACUC/IBC protocols and regulatory records
  • Coordination across multiple concurrent projects, PIs, or sponsors
  • Background in immunology, microbiome, infectious disease, or neuroscience research
  • Experience supervising or training research staff
Details
  • Full-time, on-site in Covington, LA at the Tulane National Biomedical Research Center (about 45 minutes from New Orleans)
  • Reports to Dr. Amir Ardeshir, Associate Professor, TNBRC Microbiology
  • Tulane University staff position, grade 25, with full university benefits
