City/State: Mount Vernon, New York. Department: MMV Lab Operations. Shift: Evening (4 PM–12 AM). Days: Monday–Friday. Scheduled daily hours: 7.5. Pay range: $108,000–$135,000.

Job Summary

Clinical Laboratory Supervisors oversee and manage day‑to‑day operations of a clinical laboratory, ensuring accuracy and efficiency of diagnostic testing processes. They lead and support a team of technologists, technicians, assistants, and transporters, oversee workflow, and ensure adherence to quality assurance and regulatory standards set by CLIA, NYSCLEP, CAP, OSHA, and FD.

Responsibilities

• Perform related duties and jobs designated by the laboratory manager and Medical Director.
• Supervise daily operations to ensure lab processes adhere to quality standards, meet turnaround time, and staff follow safety precautions and approved SOPs.
• Periodically evaluate and update laboratory procedures and methodologies in consultation with lab operations manager and lab director.
• Follow quality control measures specified in test procedures; review and document results, implement corrective actions when tolerance limits are exceeded, and ensure specimen integrity from receipt through filing/archival.
• Ensure compliance with standards and regulations of accrediting and government agencies.
• Resolve day‑to‑day operational problems related to laboratory information systems, personnel, and equipment performance.
• Prepare work schedules, assign and prioritize work to staff, ensure adequate coverage at all times, and prioritize work when equipment fails or short staffing occurs.
• Perform duties of subordinate employees during equipment failure and/or shortage of staffing.
• Provide guidance in handling difficult or complex problems and in resolving escalated complaints or disputes.
• Teach new employees, trainees, medical students, residents, and fellows on laboratory techniques.
• Advise and orient staff on policies, procedures, and quality control measures for test procedures.
• Apprise management of problems beyond own knowledge or expertise.
• Organize and provide direction to in‑service meetings and continuing education seminars.
• Ensure all laboratory personnel maintain NYS license and file confirmation of licensure.
• Maintain adequate inventory of laboratory supplies and reagents; prepare and evaluate regular orders for supplies as needed.
• Provide recommendations regarding capital equipment acquisition and renovation/construction to best utilize space.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Biology, or Chemistry required.
• Master’s degree preferred.
• Minimum of six years of recent experience as a Medical Technologist.
