Job summary

Premier Medical Group of the Hudson Valley is seeking a Clinical Lab Supervisor to lead the laboratory team under the Lab Director, coordinating testing and reporting to meet established timeframes. This on-site role blends bench work (about half the time in chemistry, hematology, and PCR) with staff supervision, policy development, and compliance with NYSDOH and accreditation standards.

Responsibilities

• Manage bench technologist duties approximately 50% time in chemistry, hematology, and PCR.
• Supervise clinical laboratory staff including PTO, time sheets, and evaluations.
• Oversee daily operations of clinical laboratory, LIS/EMR interfaces, and equipment contracts.
• Maintain all laboratory records and procedure manuals per regulations.
• Monitor compliance with accreditation and state/federal requirements.
• Write/update lab policies and SOPs as necessary.
• Assist in evaluating new tests and equipment validation.
• Review calibrations, QC, and instrument correlations.
• Oversee proficiency testing materials and corrective actions as needed.
• Ensure monthly statistics of testing volume are pulled.
• Ensure staff competency and annual CE hours.
• Oversee maintenance schedules and repairs.
• Perform specimen audits and annual reviews.

Summary/Primary Role

The Clinical Lab Supervisor functions as the managing technologist, under the guidance of the Lab Director, and is responsible for being part of a multi-disciplinary team in the planning, development and implementation of objectives for the Lab. The Clinical Lab Supervisor is responsible for coordinating all technical and logistical functions to ensure prompt and accurate testing and reporting of results for all laboratory samples within established timeframes. The Clinical Lab Supervisor functions within the scope of practice regulated by State and National government as well as various accrediting agencies.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

• Works as a bench technologist approximately 50% of the time, chemistry, Hematology, PCR testing.
• Supervises clinical laboratory staff. Perform all personnel functions for clinical laboratory staff including approving PTO, preparing bi-weekly time sheets, and completing annual evaluations.
• Oversees daily operations of clinical laboratory, including LIS and interfaces with EMR, and equipment maintenance agreements.
• Maintains all laboratory records and procedure manuals in accordance with regulatory requirements.
• Monitors laboratory performance for compliance with accreditation, federal, and state regulatory requirements and reports deficiencies to administration.
• Writes/updates lab policies and SOPs as necessary.
• Analyzes new tests to be implemented and assists in equipment acquisition and validation studies before new process put into use in conjunction with the Laboratory Medical Director.
• Reviews lot to lot studies, linearities, and instrument correlations as needed
• Reviews calibrations and Quality control monthly
• Acquires appropriate proficiency testing material that meets NYSDOH guidelines. Reviews, results, and provides corrective action as needed.
• Responsible for pulling monthly statistics of volume of testing performed.
• Ensures competencies are performed by all staff on hire, in six months, and annually
• Ensures licensed medical technicians and technologists have documented 12 hours of continuing education annually
• Responsible for all equipment maintenance schedules/service contracts and facilitating repairs
• Performs specimen audit for each section of the laboratory and annual review of each audit performed to ensure corrections maintained
• Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has direct supervisory responsibility for all clinical laboratory staff, including scheduling, performance evaluations, timecards, training, and annual competency assessments. To effectively support staff and ensure operational continuity, the incumbent is expected to work on-site and be available during regular laboratory operating hours.

Expected Hours of Work

An employee must work a minimum of thirty (30) hours each week to maintain full-time status for benefits purposes; however, the expectations of the position will require an average of forty (40) hours with overtime required as scheduled. Exempt employees may be required to work additional hours as necessary to fulfill their job responsibilities. Overtime requirements will be determined based on the operational needs of the organization.

The salary range listed is a good faith determination of potential base compensation that may be offered to a successful applicant for this position at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future. When determining an employee's base salary, several factors may be considered as applicable (e.g., location, specialty, years of relevant experience, education, credentials, and internal equity). Premier Medical Group also offers a comprehensive set of benefits to complement the base salary. The base annual salary range for this position is $100,000 - $125,000.

Travel Requirements

May be required to travel to other PMG sites based on operational needs. Travel is minimal.

Work Environment

This position operates in a clinical outpatient setting and routinely involves direct interaction with patients, providers, and clinical staff. The work environment may involve exposure to infectious disease, bodily fluids, medical equipment, cleaning agents, and varying patient conditions. Standard precautions, PPE, and adherence to safety protocols are required at all times.

Physical Demands

This is a safety-sensitive position, requiring alertness, sound judgment, and adherence to patient safety standards at all times.

Regularly required to stand, walk, and move between rooms throughout the day.

Frequent bending, reaching, and lifting or moving supplies and equipment up to 25 pounds.

Ability to communicate clearly in person, by phone, and through electronic systems.
