Job summary

Methodist Hospital Northeast seeks a Laboratory Supervisor to assist the Manager in daily laboratory operations, including supervising personnel and upholding quality control, QA and proficiency testing.

The candidate will have the specified education paths (high school/GED, 60 credits with required science courses, and degrees in related fields) and advantage for prior supervisory experience with ongoing training.

• High school diploma or GED and completion of official military medical laboratory procedures course.
• 60 semester hours or equivalent with required lab/science coursework and training in high complexity testing.
• Associate Degree in chemical, physical, or biological science or medical laboratory technology.
• Bachelor Degree in chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science/medical technology.
• Employee training and competency development per service line and facility needs; supervision-ready requirements.

Responsibilities

• Assist Manager with day-to-day operations of the section/department.
• Manage personnel and oversee quality control, quality assurance, and proficiency testing programs.
• Develop and evaluate laboratory methodologies, protocols and techniques.
• Oversee care, maintenance, and utilization of department equipment, supplies, and inventories.
• Provide initial and ongoing training and competency assessments.

Job Summary And Qualifications

The Laboratory Supervisor assists Manager with the day to day operations of the section/department which includes: managing personnel, developing and monitoring quality control, quality assurance and proficiency testing programs; developing and evaluating laboratory methodologies, protocols and techniques; overseeing care, maintenance, and utilization of department equipment, supplies, and inventories.

What qualifications you will need:

High school diploma or equivalent and have successfully completed an official military medical laboratory procedures course and have held the military enlisted occupational specialty of Medical Laboratory Specialist (or branch specific job title).

60 semester hours or equivalent from an accredited institution that, at a minimum, includes either 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses, OR 24 semester hours of science courses that include six semester hours of chemistry, six semester hours of biology, and 12 semester hours of chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology in any combination and laboratory training including either completion of an accredited clinical laboratory training program, or at least three months documented laboratory training in each specialty in which the individual performs high complexity testing

Associate Degree in a chemical, physical, or biological science or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution

Bachelor Degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution

Employee completes initial and ongoing training and competencies as defined by service line, facility and department/unit which are specific to the needs of the patient population served (if applicable).

Preferred: Prior supervisory experience

Minimum License, Certificates, or Registrations Required
