Job summary

Day Kimball Health in Putnam, CT, is seeking a Laboratory Service Specialist to join a dynamic hospital team. You will be responsible for obtaining and verifying patient demographic information, insurance data, and physician orders, while serving as the communications hub of Laboratory Services.

This role requires strong data entry skills, knowledge of LIS systems, and the ability to work calmly under pressure.

Qualifications

• Valid driver’s license and proof of current liability insurance as well as reliable vehicle required.
• Knowledge of Healthcare insurance preferred.
• Computer literacy required.
• High school graduate or equivalent; Knowledge of Medical Terminology preferred.
• Experience with computer entry, customer service and medical office preferred.

Responsibilities

• Greets and interviews patients to obtain required information to complete the registration check before placing orders in the Laboratory Information System.
• Knows where to locate standing orders, faxed orders, previously ordered and pre-employment orders from Employee Health.
• Answers all incoming calls and transfers to appropriate person/Lab department in a timely courteous manner.
• Is aware of locations of off-site service centers and courier runs so that patients can access Lab services efficiently and cost-effectively.
• Distributes Lab reports appropriately.
• Maintains Order Facilitator through indexing electronic requisitions and archiving/scanned billed orders.
• Resolves problems and discrepancies from previous days work.
• Follow up on incomplete registrations by contacting Physician office or patient at home to get complete information.
