Position Location: New York City
Amentum is actively seeking applicants for the role of Laboratory Scientist / Molecular Biologist.
Position Description: The Laboratory Scientist / Molecular Biologist will perform, at a minimum, the following tasks and responsibilities in accordance with standard operating procedures:
- Handling, receipt, and processing of daily operational, Quality Assurance, verification, and proficiency test samples potentially containing biological threat agents. This includes extended walking, lifting (~50-60 lbs), and repetitive motions such as twisting, cutting, pipetting, and gripping.
- Performing microbiological and molecular techniques, including DNA extraction and real-time PCR, to identify and characterize pathogenic bacterial and viral agents.
- Preparing reagents and samples, maintaining Good Laboratory Practice (GLP), and decontaminating workspaces and equipment.
- Maintaining chain-of-custody, interpreting results independently, and entering data into computerized systems.
- Routine calibration, cleaning, and maintenance of equipment across multiple lab areas.
- Collecting and analyzing samples for QA/QC and contamination monitoring.
- Proper disposal of bio-hazardous waste, which may involve lifting up to 40 lbs.
- Supporting inventory management, including restocking supplies and maintaining records of equipment and property.
- Performing QA/QC and acceptance testing of reagents, adhering to SOPs and QAPP.
- Maintaining documentation to demonstrate compliance with training and regulatory requirements.
- Analyzing external QA samples, archiving samples, and ensuring proper storage and shipping.
- Following written procedures and safety policies, including DHS safeguarding protocols.
- Preparing technical reports, answering questions, and providing recommendations.
- Working scheduled shifts, including weekends, holidays, and nights, and being available for emergencies 24/7.
Minimum Requirements / Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in microbiology, molecular biology, or related biological sciences from an accredited university.
- At least one (1) year of laboratory bench experience outside of academia, utilizing PCR, aseptic techniques, and biological assays.
- Experience with BSL-3 work is desirable.
