Job summary

Axle is seeking a Laboratory Scientist to support translational research at NIH facilities, focusing on high-consequence viral pathogens in a BSL-4 environment. Requires a Master’s degree and experience with immunology assays and molecular virology.

The role includes coordinating technical staff, data analysis, and maintaining strict sample inventory and safety practices within the Clinical Center and NIAID biosafety setting.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or higher with lab experience in biosafety level 4 environments.
  • Field of Study: Microbiology.
  • Familiarity with specimen storage and accountability.
  • Immunology assays and basic and molecular virology expertise.
  • Weekly lab updates with team members.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct translational research on high-consequence viral pathogens (e.g., Ebola, Nipah).
  • Analyze data and write reports and summaries of findings.
  • Coordinate the work of technicians, technologists and other scientists.
  • Maintain proficiency and safety in a biosafety level 4 lab.
  • Perform basic lab experiments and procedures as needed.
  • Prepare and organize lab samples, supplies and equipment.

Position Overview

The purpose of this position is to support research in the Clinical Center and NIAID biosafety level 4 laboratory, including translational studies of emerging viral pathogens. Requires a Master’s degree and prior experience working in biosafety level 4 labs conducting virology and immunology assays. A background in Microbiology, familiarity with specimen storage and accountability, and skills in immunology assays and basic and molecular virology are required/preferred.

  • Establish and maintain accurate reliable sample inventory.
  • Learn new laboratory techniques and procedures.
  • Implement existing and assimilate new assays and techniques related to virology and immunology.
