Job description

Overview

Laboratory Sciences Professional (Entry – Senior Level) at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, School of Medicine | Department of Medicine | Division of Pulmonary, Asthma, & Critical Care Medicine. The Berdnikovs/Holguin Lab uses systems biology to study organism-level interactions between metabolism, development and inflammation in lung and allergic diseases, with basic science, translational and computational components. This position involves bench science, in vivo animal experiments, and translational research with biospecimens from patients and collaboration with clinical researchers.

Work location: Onsite in Aurora, CO.

Key Responsibilities
  • In-vitro sterile cell and tissue culture.
  • Performance of immunological lab assays (flow cytometry, ELISA, etc.).
  • Performance of functional biochemical assays for studies of metabolism.
  • Set up and processing of in vivo experiments with rodents (handling mice, administering substances, euthanasia and dissections).
  • Accurate record keeping.
  • Purchasing and inventory of reagents.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Entry Level: Bachelor’s degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or related field. A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year-for-year basis.
  • Intermediate Level: Bachelor’s degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or related field. A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year-for-year basis. One (1) year professional level research experience.
  • Senior Level: Bachelor’s degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or related field. A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year-for-year basis. Two (2) years professional level research experience.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or related field.
  • Three (3) years’ experience in an experimental or wet laboratory.
  • Research experience in immunology, biochemistry, or developmental biology.
  • Experience with oral abstract presentations and presentation of research data.
  • Experience with or basic knowledge of programming and/or computational biology.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Advanced knowledge of basic laboratory techniques including safety procedures and techniques.
  • Effective written and oral communication.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Outstanding customer service skills.
  • Knowledge of basic human anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
  • Ability to interpret and master complex research protocol information.
  • Basic knowledge of data entry, graphing results and statistical analysis, and preparation of conceptual illustrations.
Conditions of Employment
  • Ability to work with live animals, including handling and treatment of mice (injections, administration of substances).
