Job description

Eagle Integrated Services, LLC (EIS) is seeking a Laboratory/Research Technician specializing in physiological/pharmacological research with small animals (rats; approximately 250/year) to support the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Chemical Defense (USAMRICD).

Position Responsibilities:

  1. Workday monitoring of small animal research subjects in support of USAMRICD for experimental studies.
  2. Handle animals to include restraint, health and behavior evaluation, weight tracking, and administration of pharmaceutical and chemical compounds.
  3. Assist in pre-surgical, surgical, and post-surgical procedures necessary for implant of telemetry or related devices to monitor physiological parameters in small animal subjects.
  4. Habituate test animals to behavioral equipment and restraint devices.
  5. Perform daily data collection and notebook entries and daily reports to the PI; record and maintain integrity of all digital and physical laboratory data following good documentation practices.
  6. Procure, organize and follow OEM guidance all laboratory animals, supplies and equipment to ensure project milestones are met.
  7. Perform physiological monitoring, as required.
  8. Ensure the quality of procedures and data and compliance with all regulatory requirements.
  9. Schedule and execute experimental procedures to include test drug preparation, blood sampling and physiological monitoring.
  10. Perform solubility studies of various therapeutic compounds of interest; assess animal health and behavior for safety and efficacy of novel candidate therapeutic compounds following administration by intramuscular, subcutaneous or intravenous routes; record findings in laboratory notebooks during or immediately following the experiments.
  11. Perform behavioral testing (e.g., open field, rotarod, and shuttle box assays).
  12. Perform blood collection from tail vein, perfusion, and tissue dissection.
  13. Perform immunohistochemical staining on tissue samples and microscopic analysis using various software.
  14. Assist in the development of research protocols, amendments and experimental design; conduct research in accordance with all safety, surety, security standards, IACUC policies and governing SOPs; prepare and maintain a clean, safe work environment of laboratory and animal space to include proper disposal of potentially hazardous animal and laboratory waste products; communicate dynamic protocol requirements to team members, collaborators, and support personnel; assist with compilation and analysis of data for use in reports, presentations and manuscripts.

Education/Experience:

  1. Biological sciences degree (e.g., biology, neuroscience, psychopharmacology) or Psychology degree
  2. Knowledge of pharmacology and neuroscience and applied medical defense research
  3. Experience executing animal use protocols
  4. Experience handling small animals (rats preferred), or 1+ years in animal or husbandry research
  5. Experience with Excel, Prism, DSI hardware and software
  6. Excellent written and oral communication skills
  7. Adaptability to new research team/project assignment per organizational needs

Background/Security:

  1. Must be a U.S. Citizen
  2. An active DoD Interim SECRET Security Clearance is required
