Job Summary
Department Specific Responsibilities
- Supervises employees in Media Lab, Glassware Washing Facility, and Fly Food Kitchen. Fill in for subordinate positions, as needed. As such, a deep understanding of all positions in these areas is essential.
- Lab Manager for large undergrad classes.
- Oversees 2-3 undergraduate teaching assistants.
- Serves as the primary contact for Media Lab and fulfill media orders.
- Orders and receives supplies for undergraduate teaching labs. Ensures the labs are stocked with supplies and reset/cleaned between class sessions.
- Maintains and prepares for live specimens for undergraduate teaching labs. Please note that this may involve a few Sundays per semester.
- Ensures that lab equipment is in good working condition.
General Responsibilities
- Oversees management of laboratory including training of personnel in various techniques and analysis.
- Conducts large-scale surveys, research projects, and complex experiments.
- Ensures that lab safety policies and procedures are observed and maintains safety records.
- Oversees the set-up and maintenance of lab equipment.
- Assists in preparation of completed research reports or analyses on each project phase.
- Maintains inventory and orders supplies as necessary; oversees the disposal of hazardous waste.
- Maintains fiscal accountability of the program, including grant proposal development, and approves all expenditures for the laboratory.

Working Conditions / DemandsThe role regularly requires the ability to effectively communicate. The role frequently requires the ability to move about the work environment and to position oneself to operate laboratory equipment effectively. The role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds and will occasionally work near moving mechanical parts. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
