Job summary

University of Massachusetts Medical School is seeking a Research Associate I to assist in laboratory operations under the direction of the PI. You will perform research experiments and support a single project, while maintaining accurate records and following safety regulations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Biological or Natural Science or equivalent experience.
• Basic understanding of lab safety and protocols.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
• Ability to analyze data quantitatively and objectively.
• Ability to work effectively in a team.

Responsibilities

• Perform laboratory experiments and manage a single research project.
• Utilize software relevant to experiments and equipment used.
• Interpret data and determine next steps under the PI guidance.
• Maintain accurate records and modify protocols with PI approval.
• Review literature, publications and grants relevant to the project.
• Record results according to lab, sponsor & university protocol.
• Assist with data analysis and computations.
• Maintain a detailed lab notebook per lab practice.
• Present findings at lab/group meetings.
• Monitor laboratory supply levels and order as needed.
• Prepare and label buffers, media, solutions, etc.
• Assist with and comply with safety regulations and infection control standards.
• Train on IACUC, IRB, EHS, Radiation safety protocols.
• Comply with all policies and agreements.
• Provide support identifying problems and proposing resolutions.
• Draft standard operating procedures in line with EHS lab regulations.
• Perform other duties as required.
