Qualifications

  • Understanding of chemical safety practices, hazard handling, and laboratory protocols (PPE, SDS, EH&S compliance).
  • Basic math and computer skills (spreadsheets, data recording) with strong attention to detail and ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Job Posting Title: Laboratory Research Assistant ---- Hiring Department: Department of Chemistry ---- Position Open To: All Applicants ---- Weekly Scheduled Hours: 40 ---- FLSA Status: Non-Exempt from FLSA ---- Earliest Start Date: Aug 17, 2026 ---- Position Duration: Expected to Continue Until Dec 31, 2026 ---- Location: UT MAIN CAMPUS

Purpose Assist the Principal Investigator, Associate Professor, Kami Hull, in the operation and maintenance of analytical and experimental equipment in an organic synthesis laboratory. The successful candidate will be able to perform experiments associated with an ongoing research project under inert atmosphere conditions.

Salary Range $15 an hour

Working Conditions Standard laboratory environment

Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs regularly

Must be able to work safely with inert atmosphere techniques (e.g., glovebox, Schlenk line) and standard synthetic chemistry hazards

Employment Eligibility: Regular staff who have been employed in their current position for the last six continuous months are eligible for openings being recruited for through University-Wide or Open Recruiting, to include both promotional opportunities and lateral transfers. Retirement Plan Eligibility: The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
