Job summary

Nemours Children's Health is seeking a Laboratory Quality Program Manager to oversee system-wide quality and regulatory compliance for clinical and anatomical pathology laboratories, including CAP, CMS, JC, AABB and FACT. This role ensures data-driven quality improvement and adherence to safety and regulatory standards across the health system.

The hybrid role requires in-person work at NCHDE and NCHFL with travel between hospitals and other Nemours locations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology or Health Sciences or equivalent with an MLT/ASCP credential.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in laboratory medicine with at least 1 year supervisory experience.
  • MT(ASCP), MLS(ASCP), MT(AMT), CLS(NCA) or equivalent certification required.
  • ASQ or other quality certification preferred.
  • Travel requirement: 30% between Nemours locations.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards governing clinical/anatomical labs and transfusion medicine.
  • Identify and monitor KPIs for the lab and report to leadership.
  • Develop and maintain QC programs and resolve technical problems.
  • Create IQCP documents with lab supervisors.
  • Oversee staff competency documentation and assessments.
  • Present quality metrics to leadership monthly and prepare CAP year-end summaries.
  • Participate in Quality and Safety committees and stay current with industry advances.

Job description

Nemours Children's Health is seeking a Laboratory Quality Program Manager to join our team in either Wilmington, Delaware or Orlando, Florida.

Nemours Children’s Health is an internationally recognized children’s health system. With more than 1.7 million patient encounters annually, we provide medical care in five states through two freestanding state-of-the-art children’s hospitals — Nemours Children’s Hospital, Delaware and Nemours Children’s Hospital, Florida. Our pediatric network includes 80 primary-urgent-and specialty care practices and more than 40 hospitalists serving 19 affiliated hospitals.

The Laboratory Quality Program Manager serves at the health system level, ensuring compliance with applicable regulatory agencies governing clinical and anatomical pathology laboratories as well as all aspects of transfusion medicine (Blood Bank, Cellular Gene Therapy laboratory, Apheresis); CAP, CMS, JC, AABB, FACT, etc. Accountable to create processes and systems to monitor quality data and performance. Accountable to recommend, along with lab and medical leadership, strategies to improve performance, safety and compliance. Must work closely with the departments of Quality and Safety and Continuous Improvement ensuring Nemours’ performance improvement standards are followed. Will attend applicable meetings and potentially present lab quality data results in various forums. Applies a combination of analytical, communication and reasoning skills to accurately and efficiently ensure that procedures adhere to safety and compliance rules and regulations. In support of the system, this role is a hybrid position requiring both in-person and remote support with an expectation to travel between both NCHFL & NCHDE Hospitals and other Nemours locations, as deemed necessary.

  • Ensures compliance with all applicable regulatory and accreditation standards governing the clinical and anatomical pathology laboratories as well as all aspects of transfusion medicine (Blood Bank, Cellular Gene Therapy laboratory, Apheresis; for example, CAP, CMS, Joint Commission and AABB, FACT, as well as any state/federal licensure. In this capacity, oversees compliance of Proficiency Testing, CAP standards, non-conforming events, procedure/policy and process review. Serves as the department representative during all audits/inspections, assisting auditors with any inquiries and reporting findings to management.
  • Identifies and monitors Key Performance Indicators (KPI)s for the lab. Communicates with lab and medical leadership when targets are not achieved. Establishes the PI model to improve performance.
  • Works collaboratively with laboratory leadership to implement, maintain and regularly review quality control programs. Identifies and resolves technical problems ensuring appropriate remedial action is taken and documented whenever test systems deviate from established performance specifications.
  • Works collaboratively with the applicable technical supervisors to create, monitor and maintain relevant IQCP documents.
  • Works with the technical supervisors to devise streamlined competency documents for staff and holds accountability for the competency assessment program overall.
  • Presents quality metrics to leadership monthly and to the Quality and Safety forums, etc. Compiles a CAP-compliant year-end summary of the overall quality management of the laboratories to be reviewed and approved by the Medical Director.
  • Serves on relevant laboratory and organizational committees and work groups including the Quality and Safety Committees. Pursues knowledge of current and future advances in medical laboratory sciences and applies to the laboratory. Remains aware of developments in the quality field by reading current technical literature, maintaining memberships in professional organizations and/or attending technical industry conferences/meetings.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or Health Sciences OR Bachelor’s degree in a chemical, physical or biological science with an Associate’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technology required. Master’s degree in business and/or clinical specialty preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in laboratory medicine, and one-year supervisory experience, such as a supervisor or Lead Tech required.
  • Previous quality management experience preferred.
  • MT(ASCP), MLS(ASCP), MT(AMT), or CLS(NCA), or equivalent certification required.
  • ASQ or other quality certification preferred.
  • Travel requirement - (30%) between both NCHFL & NCHDE Hospitals and other Nemours locations.
