Job summary

The South Dakota Public Health Laboratory, part of the Department of Health, in Pierre, SD, is hiring Laboratory Program Assistants to support all laboratory programs. The role includes unpackaging samples, inventory and data management, mailroom tasks, waste handling, and media preparation in a busy lab environment.

No formal science education required; on-the-job training provided. Working hours are Monday–Friday, 7am–4pm, with physical work and exposure to chemicals.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of computer-based software such as Microsoft Office.
• Ability to train in and become a user of an electronic test ordering system and inventory management system.
• Experience packaging and shipping through USPS, UPS, FedEx or other courier encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

• Unpackaging clinical, environmental and forensic samples; inventory management; data entry and data management.
• Support mailroom activities, waste management and media preparation.
• Assist laboratory scientists and leadership to meet daily goals.
