Laboratory Processor - Full Time - Rotational Shift - Pittsburgh, PA

Job Overview

Receives, prepares, and processes all specimens delivered to the laboratory.

Responsibilities
  1. Register patients and perform test order entry into the laboratory information system accurately and efficiently to ensure proper testing and billing. (55%)
  2. Verify specimen identification and prepare and process specimens according to department procedures and protocols. (25%)
  3. Maintain cleanliness of the work area and ensure adequate supplies for efficient laboratory operations. (5%)
  4. Support functions such as answering telephones, faxing reports, and send-outs. (5%)
  5. Operate and maintain instrumentation, recognize problems, and take appropriate action. (5%)
  6. Mentor MLA students in specimen processing, following WPAHS policies and procedures. (5%)
  7. Perform other duties as assigned or required.
Qualifications
Minimum
  • At least 3 months of experience in a clinical laboratory setting, including registration and medical terminology, which may be gained through training or a degree program.
Preferred
  • Laboratory training program or degree in clinical sciences.
