Job summary

Overland Park Regional Medical Center is seeking a Laboratory Phlebotomist to perform blood collection and specimen processing in a fast-paced hospital setting. The role reports under the supervision of a Medical Technologist and emphasizes service, safety, and professionalism to ensure a positive patient experience.

Responsibilities include greeting patients, performing venipunctures or finger/heel sticks, labeling and data entry, and preparing samples for multiple departments along with light

Qualifications

  • Phlebotomy certification preferred.
  • Graduate of Phlebotomy Course required.
  • One year of experience in a medical laboratory if phlebotomy program not completed.
  • Six months computer keyboarding or equivalent preferred.

Job Summary And Qualifications

The Laboratory Phlebotomist performs collections of blood samples and specimens efficiently and appropriately following hospital and department standards and policies. Under the supervision of a Medical Technologist, the Phlebotomist may also performs routine technical functions, CLIA waived analyses and quality control. What you will do in this role:
  • You will greet patients and instruct them in proper specimen collection methods.
  • You will draw blood specimens from patients by using finger sticks, heel sticks or venipunctures and collect other specimens as required.
  • You will label specimens for identification purposes accurately and enter specimen data into the computer.
  • You will prepare samples for microbiology, hematology, serology, blood bank, and urinalysis departments.
  • You will assist with clerical duties by answering telephone calls.
What Qualifications Will You Need:
  • Phlebotomy certification preferred.
  • Graduate of Phlebotomy Course required.
  • Additional 6 months experience preferred.
  • If phlebotomy program has not been completed, to be considered, one-year of experience in a medical laboratory is required or college course work in biological/chemical sciences.
  • Six months computer keyboarding or equivalent preferred.
