Description:The Laboratory Technician I is under the general direction of the Laboratory Manager.Key responsibilities include collecting and preparing blood samples.The technician must correctly identify patients and specimens.Transportation and handling of specimens are essential functions of the role.The technician will perform related clerical tasks as required.Processing specimens according to laboratory policy is also a duty.Special projects may be assigned.Weekend work is required every other weekend.This role involves interaction with diverse patient age groups, including adolescents, infants, adults, pediatrics, and geriatrics.Candidates should be familiar with blood culture methods, specimen storage, and post venipuncture site care.Understanding the mode of action of additives and anticoagulants in blood collection tubes is important.Proper disposal and labeling of samples are critical responsibilities.Communication with patients regarding proper collection and preservation of laboratory specimens is necessary.Experience with various blood draw techniques is preferred.Quality assurance and adherence to safety standards are essential for the role.Candidates must provide accurate work history information going back 7 years.
