Job summary

Clay County Medical Center is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS/MT/CLS ASCP eligible) to perform clinical chemistry, microbiology, and related analyses. You will operate microscopes and automated analyzers, collect urine drug screens for employees, and ensure strict quality control and accurate result reporting.

The role requires attention to detail, strong teamwork, and adherence to hospital policies with ongoing education and in-services to maintain competency and safety.

Responsibilities

• Perform clinical chemistry, microbiology, blood bank analyses as directed by the laboratory supervisor.
• Operate microscopes and automated analyzers to analyze blood and body fluids.
• Collect and process urine drug screens for hospital employees and applicants.
• Maintain records ensuring proficiency testing samples are processed like patient samples.
• Identify and resolve test performance issues and document corrective actions.
• Ensure timely reporting of results only after remedial actions are completed.
• Follow all procedures and policies for quality assurance and safety.

[Perform medical laboratory procedures and analyses specializing in clinical chemistry, microbiology, blood bank or other biological sciences authorized by the laboratory director. Use precision instruments such as microscopes and other automated analyzers to analyze blood and other body fluids. Collect and process prospective hospital employees, and random employees urine drug screen. Demonstrate skill and accuracy in obtaining specimens by obtaining an adequate specimen, properly identify patient and specimen, and be alert to potential sources of error. Maintains records that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient samples. Adheres to laboratorys policies with regards to quality control, quality assurance and remedial action. Follows procedure directions exactly. Maintains awareness of changes in procedures and protocols. Identify problems that adversely affect test performance and devise resolution to technical problems. Document all corrective action taken. Must attend required in-services and comply with hospital policies and governmental regulations. Ensure that tests and testing systems perform to acceptable levels of performance. Ensure that patients results are not reported until all remedial actions are taken when indicated. Ensures maintenance of all laboratory equipment and orders replacement of supplies. Must be able to prioritize/reorganize workload in response to STAT requests. Performs duties in a timely manner, utilizing effective organization/time management. Regularly participate in continuing education and related programs. Demonstrates cooperation with departmental and organizational policies and work schedule guidelines. Interact with fellow workers in a way that promotes a harmonious and cooperative working environment. Adapt to change or unusual circumstances in a way that promotes cooperation and minimizes disruption to working environment.

Certification: Medical Laboratory Scientist MLS (ASCP), Medical Technologist MT (ASCP) or MT (ASCP), Clinical Laboratory Scientist CLS (ASCP) or eligible
