Qualifications

Job description

Laboratory Manager - New York City Area

We are always open to finding self-motivated, collaborative, and highly organized Lab Manager candidates for potential opportunities within our labs in the greater New York City area.

The Lab Manager role is responsible for supervising and performing technical and administrative tasks on a day-to-day basis in support of the lab's research and operational needs. This role coordinates equipment maintenance, ensures adequate supplies for experimental needs, supports the Investigator with personnel management, manages lab safety programs to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, assists in laboratory space and facilities planning, makes recommendations for changes, maintains inventory of laboratory furniture and equipment, and serves as the liaison to both HHMI and host institution administrative offices.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Lead day-to-day activities within the research laboratory, including ensuring operation of crucial equipment and adequate supplies for routine experimental procedures.
  2. Act as liaison between lab and HHMI and host institution administrative offices on issues such as budget management and purchasing.
  3. Act as liaison between lab and host safety and regulatory offices to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations.
  4. Develop laboratory guidelines; maintain procedures manuals; evaluate new materials and equipment.
  5. Train incoming personnel in appropriate lab conduct and may train others in technical areas.
  6. May carry out research projects and evaluate new techniques and technology.
  7. May plan for and provide working supervision to the work of Research Technicians or other junior laboratory personnel.
Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in health or physical sciences; or an equivalent combination of education and related work experience. Advanced degree is a plus.

Experience: Three or more years of laboratory experience including at least one year of supervisory experience.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Operational knowledge of advanced lab equipment.
  • Ability to supervise others and initiate communications for various purposes.
  • In-depth understanding of organizational structure within and outside the work unit.
  • Ability to develop instructional material for routine training purposes.
  • Ability to review goals and analyze processes vital to achieve those goals.

Physical Requirements:

Remaining in a normal seated or standing position for extended periods; reaching and grasping; dexterity to manipulate objects; communication skills; ability to see and hear within normal parameters; ability to move about workspace. The position requires mobility, including moving materials weighing up to several pounds. Work may involve possible exposure to malodorous vapors, low dose radiation, toxic chemicals, and carcinogenic substances.

Compensation Range: Laboratory Manager I – $73,255.00 (minimum) - $91,500.00 (midpoint) - $118,910.00 (maximum)
