Job summary

The Keiser Lab in the School of Life Sciences at Arizona State University is seeking a highly motivated Laboratory Manager to oversee day-to-day laboratory operations and support ongoing neuroscience research. Our lab investigates molecular and circuit-level mechanisms underlying brain function and behavior using mouse models, molecular biology approaches, and behavioral neuroscience techniques.

The role offers budget oversight, staff supervision, and adherence to lab safety standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and 3 years of related experience, or equivalent.
  • Experience in a wet lab environment and with mice.
  • Strong organization, communication, and teamwork abilities.
  • Ability to supervise staff and train students/technicians.

Responsibilities

  • Manage laboratory inventory, ordering, receiving, and stocking of supplies and reagents.
  • Maintain organization of lab spaces, equipment, and shared resources.
  • Oversee and maintain the mouse colony, including breeding coordination and record keeping.
  • Ensure compliance with IACUC, EHS, safety regulations, and institutional policies.
  • Assist with protocol development and documentation for animal and molecular experiments.
  • Coordinate maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment and liaise with vendors.
  • Train lab members in standard procedures and animal handling.
  • Support molecular biology and wet lab experiments and data collection.
  • Maintain accurate records of experiments, protocols, and colony management systems.

The Keiser Lab in the School of Life Sciences at Arizona State University is seeking a highly motivated and organized Laboratory Manager to oversee day-to-day laboratory operations and support ongoing neuroscience research. Our lab investigates molecular and circuit-level mechanisms underlying brain function and behavior using mouse models, molecular biology approaches, and behavioral neuroscience techniques.

Compensation rate

$48,600.00 per year

Essential Duties
  • Manage laboratory inventory, ordering, receiving, and stocking of supplies and reagents
  • Maintain organization of lab spaces, equipment, and shared resources
  • Oversee and maintain the mouse colony, including breeding coordination, genotyping logistics, record keeping, and compliance with institutional guidelines
  • Ensure compliance with all IACUC and EHS protocols, safety regulations, and institutional policies
  • Assist with protocol development, updates, and documentation for animal and molecular experiments
  • Coordinate maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment and liaise with vendors/service engineers
  • Train and assist lab members (students, technicians, and trainees) in standard lab procedures and animal handling
  • Support molecular biology and wet lab experiments (e.g., tissue collection, genotyping, PCR, sample preparation)
  • Assist with behavioral neuroscience experiments and data collection as needed
  • Maintain accurate records of experiments, protocols, and colony management systems
  • Foster a collaborative, supportive, and organized lab environment
  • Contribute to lab meetings, planning discussions, and workflow optimization
Desired Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Neuroscience, Biology, Molecular Biology, Psychology, or a related field
  • Prior experience working in a wet lab environment
  • Comfort and willingness to work with mice (handling, basic husbandry, or related experience required)
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a team
  • Excellent communication skills and a proactive, problem-solving mindset
  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and prioritize tasks in a dynamic research environment
  • Experience with mouse colony management and/or in vivo research
  • Molecular biology skills (e.g., PCR, genotyping, cloning, Western blotting, tissue processing)
  • Experience with behavioral neuroscience assays
  • Familiarity with neuroscience research concepts or rodent models of brain function and disease
  • Prior experience training or supervising undergraduate researchers
  • Interest in developing independent research projects or contributing to manuscript preparation
Working Environment

Regular activities require ability to manage multiple tasks at one time, to be able to prioritize tasks; to manage conflict: to interact in a team environment: and to communicate effectively to exchange accurate information. Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting and laboratory subject to extended periods of being in a stationary position, operating computer and other office productivity machinery; required to move a moderate distance to perform work. Frequently moves up to 25 pounds for various needs. May be required to wear personal protective equipment before entering laboratories such as lab coat, gloves, safety glasses, closed toe shoes and respirator.
