Job summary

Students 2 Science Inc. seeks a Laboratory Instructor to engage middle and high school students in hands-on STEM experiences at the Newark Technology Center. This full-time role runs Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM, with occasional travel to Newark/Whippany sites and off-site trainings.

The ideal candidate has a Master’s in STEM and a passion for inspiring young minds. Prior teaching or mentoring experience is a plus; Bilingual in Spanish and English is also beneficial.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in STEM.
  • Willingness to travel to Newark/Whippany sites.
  • Teaching or mentoring experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Leading hands-on STEM experiences in the ISAAC In-Person Laboratory Program for Middle and High School students.
  • Preparing, organizing, and maintaining STEM activities and laboratory equipment for ISAAC Programs to ensure seamless operation.
  • Training and mentoring volunteers, interns, and assistant instructors, ensuring a high-quality and engaging learning experience.
  • Developing and refining STEM curriculum, including designing new experiments, instructor guides, and other supporting documentation that align with NGSS.
  • Fostering an inclusive, engaging, and inspiring STEM learning environment that encourages curiosity and discovery among students.
  • Strictly enforcing lab safety by adhering to all established safety protocols and procedures.

Summary/objective

Students 2 Science (S2S), Inc is a non-profit organization with a mission to inspire and empower all students through hands-on learning experiences, encouraging them to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) to strengthen the future workforce.

  • The ISAAC Program (Improving Student Affinity and Aptitude for Careers in STEM) provides students with authentic and rigorous STEM work experience in a state-of-the-art commercial laboratory.
  • The V-Lab Program (Virtual Laboratory) conducts laboratory instructional sessions via a collaborative communication platform. The program includes science kits, detailed lessons, and lesson plans with how-to videos, all aligned to the Next Generation Science Standards.

We are seeking a highly motivated, enthusiastic, and engaging Laboratory Instructor to join our team and ignite a passion for STEM in young minds at our Newark Technology Center!

Essential Functions

(Full-Time Position, 40 Hours/Week, Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM)

  • Leading hands-on STEM experiences in the ISAAC In-Person Laboratory Program for Middle and High School students

  • Fostering an inclusive, engaging, and inspiring STEM learning environment that encourages curiosity and discovery among students
  • Strictly enforcing lab safety by adhering to all established safety protocols and procedures, ensuring a secure learning environment for all participants

What We’re Looking For

  • Passion for STEM Education: you love inspiring young minds and making science fun!
  • Strong STEM Background: a solid understanding of key scientific and engineering principles
  • Great Communicator: ability to break down complex STEM concepts into engaging and digestible lessons
  • Prior analytical chemistry, molecular biology, or laboratory experience (academic, industrial, or educational setting)
  • Demonstrated analytical, biological, or biochemical laboratory skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with strong planning and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to be an active team player; works well with colleagues, students, and volunteers in a collaborative environment

Travel Requirements

  • Ability to travel on occasion to both the Newark and Whippany sites, as well as off-site locations for training sessions, meetings, and company events.
  • Advance notice will be provided for all travel-related events.
  • Employees are expected to provide their own reliable transportation.

A significant amount of time is spent sitting and standing. Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs. (lab equipment, supplies, etc.) required. Must be able to read, write and understand English. Good auditory and visual skills are required. This in-office position will be based in the Newark Technology Center.

Required education and experience

  • Master’s Degree or equivalent in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM)

Preferred education and experience

  • PhD in STEM field
  • Experience in teaching, mentoring, or training middle or high school students is a plus
  • Bilingual – fluency in Spanish and English is a plus
