Hours: Monday – Friday, 5 8/hr shifts
New York Cancer and Blood Specialists (NYCBS), a respected and expanding Oncology/Hematology group, is seeking a Laboratory Information System Associate to join our growing team. Our practice manages a freestanding outpatient Cancer Center operating seven days a week, offering chemotherapy administration, Radiation Oncology, Pharmacy, and a Research department—with clinic locations from Southampton to NYC.
The Laboratory Information System Associate will support and maintain the Laboratory Information System (LIS) and associated interfaces. This role involves collaboration across departments to ensure seamless communication and system functionality, with a focus on HL7 messaging, system upgrades, testing, documentation, hardware maintenance, and vendor coordination.
Conduct system testing with EHR and external interfaces during changes and upgrades.
Analyze HL7 messages and resolve interface issues between systems and the LIS.
Maintain documentation for testing activities and change requests.
Implement and manage LIS change requests and updates.
Support inbound/outbound HIS interfaces for uninterrupted communication.
Provide technical support for instrument interfaces and coordinate with vendors.
Generate reports and extract data using LIS or SQL queries.
Assist LIS Managers in coordinating projects and supervising junior staff.
Maintain LIS-related hardware such as label and report printers.
Schedule server maintenance and coordinate with relevant support teams.
Troubleshoot and resolve production environment issues.
Provide after-hours and weekend support as needed for upgrades and go-lives.
Collaborate with IT and support services to address LIS team requests.
Manage helpdesk and vendor ticketing systems for issue resolution.
Bachelor’s Degree required.
1–3 years of LIS management experience preferred.
Strong organizational and computer skills.
Self-starter with the ability to work independently.
Proficiency in Excel (including Pivot Tables and VLOOKUP).
Familiarity with SQL and data analysis.
Understanding of medical terminology and pathology reports.
Experience in healthcare and LIS preferred.
Starting Salary: $32/hour (commensurate with experience)
