Laboratory Engineering Assistant - Optical

Position Overview

This position is responsible for product qualification testing of standard products and mechanical/environmental testing of developmental products. The individual must serve as a technical consultant to lab technicians and production test personnel. Responsibilities include developing new testing systems or procedures and conducting experiments related to product characteristics. Leadership skills and thorough knowledge of material test methods and equipment are essential.

Responsibilities

• Perform product qualification tests and analyze results to produce primary reports.
• Conduct mechanical/environmental tests on developmental products as per guidelines.
• Develop or improve testing methods and systems, including constructing experimental setups and designing test apparatus.
• Enhance testing software for data analysis and graphical presentation.
• Train inspection and production personnel on new testing procedures.
• Develop or update operation manuals and improve laboratory operations, safety, and Kaizen activities.
• Perform field testing, special tests, and other experiments as requested.
• Conduct minor maintenance and ensure a clean, safe work environment.
• Manage supplies within budget and policy guidelines.
• Perform additional tasks as assigned by engineers.

Requirements

• Associate's degree in engineering, physics, or related technical field, or equivalent work experience.
• Strong writing, mathematical, and computer programming skills preferred.
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Physics is desirable.

Experience

• 1 to 3 years of fiber optics or general laboratory experience.
