Job description

If you are ready to shape the performance, culture, and clinical impact of an essential diagnostic service, this Laboratory Director opportunity offers the visibility and authority experienced leaders seek. The successful candidate will guide a complex laboratory function where timely decisions, trusted results, and engaged teams directly influence care across the hospital.

The healthcare organization provides a collaborative practice environment with accessible executive support, established staffing resources, and strong relationships across clinical disciplines. Leaders are encouraged to exercise sound autonomy while remaining connected to physicians, nursing, and ancillary teams. A thoughtful onboarding process, collegial workplace culture, and long-term leadership growth make this an attractive setting for a laboratory executive seeking both stability and meaningful influence.

Clinical Laboratory Services operates at the center of the patient care continuum, supporting diagnostic laboratory workflows across chemistry, hematology, microbiology, blood bank, and transfusion services. The Laboratory Director will provide clinical laboratory leadership and oversight of laboratory operations while maintaining a visible presence with staff and physicians. This role carries genuine operational ownership for quality assurance and regulatory compliance, staffing support, workflow reliability, and resource coordination. Staff development and mentorship will be central to building capability and accountability, while interdisciplinary collaboration advances diagnostic excellence, patient safety, and process improvement throughout the facility.

Reporting through the hospital’s executive leadership structure, the Director of Laboratory Services will serve as the principal operational voice for laboratory medicine. Supported by senior leaders, this individual will cultivate productive physician relationships, partner closely with nursing leadership and ancillary departments, and translate organizational priorities into measurable laboratory practices. Primary responsibilities include daily performance management, workforce development, policy oversight, regulatory readiness, service coordination, and quality improvement, with ample strategic influence over how laboratory services support broader patient care goals.

Beyond the professional opportunity, Northern California living offers an appealing balance of natural beauty, recreation, and community connection. Residents can enjoy access to hiking, cycling, lakes, mountains, and year-round outdoor pursuits, along with locally rooted dining and arts experiences. The region also presents a range of family-friendly communities, housing options, schools, and less congested daily routines than many larger California markets.

A competitive executive compensation range will reflect the selected candidate’s laboratory leadership background, education, credentials, and scope of experience. The total rewards package is expected to include comprehensive healthcare benefits, retirement options, paid time off, continuing education support, and leadership development resources.
