Job description

Build a career with purpose as the Clinical Laboratory Director, combining meaningful diagnostic leadership, technology-enabled workflows, supportive collaboration, professional growth, measurable patient impact, and the quality of life found in eastern Colorado.

The Director Laboratory Services will join a rural healthcare organization distinguished by strong regional capabilities and nationally recognized performance. The hospital ranks in the Top 5% nationwide for Emergency Room wait times and efficiency and has earned Women's Choice Awards rankings in the Top 4% for Obstetrics and Top 12% for Emergency Care. As a Level IV Trauma Center with around-the-clock emergency and anesthesia services, this medical center offers the Clinical Laboratory Director a stable, high-impact hospital environment where diagnostic excellence directly supports timely clinical decisions, patient safety, and access to care.

Within the Laboratory and broader Diagnostic Services team, the Clinical Laboratory Director will lead an on-site, CLIA-certified operation supporting emergency, trauma, obstetric, surgical, and general hospital care. The department serves a medical center with 24-hour emergency services, 24-hour anesthesia coverage, and a full-time, board-certified general surgeon, creating meaningful diagnostic variety and close interaction with frontline clinicians. Collaboration also extends to an ACR-accredited radiology department with advanced mammography screening, allowing the Director Laboratory Services to help coordinate reliable diagnostic workflows across an organization known for top-tier rural healthcare infrastructure, award-winning performance, and extensive regional capabilities.

The Director Laboratory Services will provide strategic and operational leadership for laboratory quality, regulatory readiness, staffing, workflow coordination, budgeting, education, performance improvement, and patient safety. Working closely with hospital administration, medical leadership, physicians, nurses, technicians, imaging professionals, pharmacists, and other allied health colleagues, the Clinical Laboratory Director will strengthen turnaround performance, support dependable test utilization, mentor laboratory staff, and maintain CLIA-aligned standards. This visible leadership role offers the autonomy to improve processes while ensuring that technology, automation, analytics, and optimized information workflows support-not replace-not sound professional judgment.

For an experienced laboratory professional exploring healthcare leadership jobs, the Clinical Laboratory Director position represents a genuine next step rather than a routine management opening. The successful leader can expand expertise through regulatory stewardship, quality initiatives, interdisciplinary committees, staff development, cross-training, continuing education, and mentorship of emerging laboratory leaders. The Director Laboratory Services will have an opportunity to shape a sustainable department culture focused on manageable workflows, clear priorities, reliable scheduling practices, professional accountability, and long-term team capability.

Living and working in eastern Colorado gives the Clinical Laboratory Director room to build both a consequential hospital career and a grounded personal life. The region's High Plains landscape offers expansive skies, uncrowded roads, close-knit communities, local parks, wildlife viewing, cycling, hunting, and easy access to regional fairs, rodeos, and community traditions. Compared with a major metropolitan commute, daily life can feel more direct and connected, although professionals should expect longer drives for some big-city amenities and mountain destinations. For a Director Laboratory Services who values community visibility, outdoor space, and the chance to make an identifiable regional impact, eastern Colorado offers a distinctive alternative to crowded urban healthcare markets.

The Clinical Laboratory Director will receive competitive compensation and a comprehensive benefits package aligned with the responsibilities of this healthcare leadership role, with specific total-rewards details available during the recruitment process. Laboratory professionals searching for hospital careers, allied health jobs, diagnostic services leadership, or healthcare management jobs are encouraged to explore how this opportunity could elevate both their career and community impact.
