Job summary

CommonSpirit Health is looking for a Lab Assistant in Little Falls, Minnesota. In this role, you will help solve diagnostic mysteries and prepare patient specimens for testing.

The position requires a high school diploma, Basic Life Support certification, and offers two pay range options: $19.53 - $25.51 per hour. If you have a certification from a Lab Assistant Program or experience in an acute care facility, it is preferred.

Qualifications

• Must have Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from American Heart Association within 90 days of start date.
• Preferred certification from Lab Assistant Program or experience in an acute care facility.
• Preferred: Lab Assistant Program certificate within six months or six months experience in an acute care facility.

Job Summary

As a Lab Assistant, you will play a crucial role in solving diagnostic mysteries, bringing us one step closer to effectively treating patient illnesses and injuries. Every day you will utilize your expertise and our advanced technology to precisely collect, prepare, and process a diverse range of patient specimens (blood, urine, tissue, etc.) for various diagnostic tests.

Responsibilities

• Practice positive patient identification at all times, in all job functions.
• Practice HumanKindness and courtesy with all patient and co-worker interactions. Establish and maintain good communication within the department and with other hospital departments.
• Takes responsibility for the department workflow, assists all members of the team to maintain department workflow and efficiency. Creates an atmosphere by manner, work and deed that fosters teamwork and collaboration.
• Processes specimen into the lab, organized for department distribution. Moves processed samples quickly to laboratory departments for testing.
• Handles Laboratory Send-out testing. Processes, organizes, packing lists and packaging for testing sent to external laboratories according to procedures.
• Uses good judgment when problem solving and requests help when needed.

Job Requirements

Required:

• High School Diploma or GED
• Basic Life Support (BLS) from American Heart Association within 90 days of start date

Preferred:

• Certificate from Lab Assistant Program within six months of hire or six months experience in an acute care facility
• Certificate from other Phlebotomy program
