Job summary

Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) is seeking a regular, employee-based phlebotomy technician to join the clinical laboratory team at MUSC-PC in Mount Pleasant. The role performs venipuncture and capillary draws for patients of all ages, records results in the specified systems, and follows universal precautions and safety guidelines.

The position involves processing and handling specimens per MUSC-PC protocols, maintaining supplies, and contributing to quality assurance.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• 0 – 6 months work experience preferred.
• Certificate of Phlebotomy preferred.
• State licensure and/or professional certification requirement depending on position.

Responsibilities

• Provide quality venipuncture or capillary service for patients of all ages with lab orders by a physician, while practicing universal precautions.
• Perform data entry of patient demographic information and assays ordered into computer systems.
• Process and handle specimens according to MUSCP/MUSCP-PC guidelines and reference lab requirements.
• Maintain medical supplies and ensure quality assurance through remedial actions and documentation.
• Decontaminate assigned areas and document the information.
• Attend trainings, meetings, and continuing education as requested.
