Job description

Desert Regional Medical Center is a 385-bed acute-care hospital classified as a stroke receiving center and Level I Trauma Center with an innovative, patient-centered, and evidence-based Rehabilitation Services Department. Our compassionate team provides a wide range of inpatient and outpatient services, including acute care rehabilitation, joint replacement & spinal surgery, neurosurgery, ICU, telemetry, step-down care, skilled nursing, as well as outpatient therapy, hand, and lymphedema clinics.

General Duties:

1. Under the supervision of the Phlebotomy Supervisor, performs accurate and skilled blood collection procedures and assists both MDs and RNs with collections as indicated by staff physician orders and section standards.
2. Conducts all related duties as a professional member of the healthcare team.
3. Responsible for policies and procedures related to communication and collection of blood samples.
4. Ensures adherence to and enforcement of all Hospital and Laboratory policies, including those to prevent accidental and unnecessary exposure to blood-borne pathogens and safety hazards.
5. Maintains total adherence to the Laboratory Compliance Plan.
6. Understands physiological and psychological differences created by age, sex, and abilities, applying this knowledge to all phases of laboratory testing.
7. Communicates professionally with coworkers and other hospital staff.
8. Performs job duties using the hospital's customer service strategy.
9. Works productively, efficiently, and harmoniously, utilizing knowledge of the job.
10. Performs routine maintenance of phlebotomy areas, including patient rooms.
11. Displays professionalism, cooperation, and supports the overall function of the section.
12. Performs miscellaneous related duties and other tasks as assigned.
