Laboratory Assistant - Part Time Evening Shift

Position Overview: Collects and processes laboratory specimens for analysis. Performs routine duties specific to the assigned section.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Contribute to department goals by adhering to policies, procedures, quality, and safety standards, and comply with regulations.
2. Retrieve specimens, transport to the lab, log, bag, file, and discard surgical specimens as needed.
3. Verify specimen identity, investigate discrepancies, generate reports, and submit corrections.
4. Maintain a clean, safe work environment, reporting hazards.
5. Maintain records, reports, and files as directed.
6. Order supplies, maintain inventory.
7. Perform quality control and preventive maintenance on equipment, including the morgue, and report out-of-range results.
8. Prepare specimens for analysis, verify receipt, add fixatives, and sort for lab sections. Assist lab staff as needed.
9. Assist with patient registration, place orders, and use the LIS system.
10. Label supplies, record their receipt and use.
11. Screen visitors, handle calls, provide results, and refer inquiries.
12. Send out tests to reference labs, monitor logs, and mail reports.
13. Participate in meetings, committees, and community outreach.
14. Engage in quality and service improvement teams.
15. Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED; 1-year laboratory experience preferred.
• 1-2 years of laboratory experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Basic computer skills.
• Verbal and written communication skills.

This position offers a hiring range of $19.17 - $33.08.
