Description

JOB PURPOSE:

Coordinates the day-to-day functions of the laboratory, including specimen collection and processing of samples, to ensure the highest quality of care for clients.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Handles laboratory data collection systems and equipment to ensure requests for laboratory tests are properly ordered, canceled, and charged.
  2. Performs specimen processing, preparation, and distribution.
  3. Maintains awareness of policies and procedures.
  4. Communicates effectively via phone and face-to-face, being courteous, prompt, and polite. Documents all information accurately.
  5. Assists with laboratory temperature control and maintenance.
  6. Orders and maintains testing and laboratory supplies.
  7. Keeps laboratory areas clean and well-stocked.
  8. Handles information discretely, maintaining confidentiality.
  9. Coordinates and consults with the lab manager regarding lab issues.
  10. Works independently and as part of a team.
  11. Complies with OSHA, CLIA, and federal regulations.
  12. Maintains a professional appearance and attitude.
  13. Performs other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and other relevant software.
  • Participates in surveys (Licensure/JCAHO) and required reports.
  • Attends continuing education to stay current in the field and maintain licenses/certifications.
  • Participates in mandatory in-services.
  • Respects patients’ rights to fair and equitable treatment, privacy, and civil rights.
  • Complies with corporate compliance policies.
  • Reports occupational hazards, including exposure to blood and body fluids.
  • Follows safety regulations, including fire prevention and infection control.
  • Uses established safety procedures when performing tasks and operating equipment.

Qualifications

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant or phlebotomy training program, or
  • At least a two-year degree in chemical, physical, biological sciences, or a health-related field.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Experience preferred but not necessary.
