Laboratory Assistant III (Mon-Fri, 8am-5pm)

Position Details

This position is represented by SEIU Local 2007, governed by the collective bargaining agreement. The role will start in May 2025, with an anticipated shift from Monday to Friday, 8am-5pm, subject to operational needs.

Job Responsibilities
  • Support translational research and quality assurance activities within the Division of Thoracic Surgery.
  • Collect, organize, and process tissue specimens from the operating room, including preparation, labeling, and transport.
  • Collect, enter, and retrieve patient demographic and clinical data for the clinical database and research studies.
Qualifications
  • Four-year college degree with substantial coursework in Biology and laboratory work preferred.
  • Wet lab experience highly preferred.
  • Proficiency with PC word processing and database software.
  • Basic knowledge of human anatomy and tissue handling skills.
Experience and Skills
  • At least one additional year of laboratory-related experience beyond Laboratory Assistant II level.
  • Ability to organize multiple duties, establish good working relationships, and train or lead staff.
Physical and Working Conditions
  • Manual dexterity, ability to stand, walk, perform seated work, and operate equipment.
  • Lift/carry up to 20 pounds; occasional heavier lifting and moving of equipment.
  • Work in a research environment with potential exposure to animals, chemicals, and hazardous materials, following safety protocols.
Additional Conditions
  • May require driving to off-campus locations.
  • Adherence to safety standards and university policies is mandatory.
Compensation

Expected pay range: $33.63 to $40.55 per hour, based on collective bargaining agreement.
