This position within the Division of Thoracic Surgery will support translational research and quality assurance activities within the division. Two major areas of research within the Division – tumor biology work and respiratory muscle work – depend largely upon the acquisition of tissue and blood specimens from the operating room. Furthermore, correlative studies and quality assurance activities utilizing information learned from analysis of these tissues in the laboratory and clinical information requires a robust Thoracic Surgery Clinical Database.
This position is for an individual who will split his/her time between collecting/organizing tissue specimens in the operating room and collecting/entering/retrieving patient data for the clinical database and for ongoing and new clinical research studies. Tissue collected from the OR will need to be prepared (e.g., snap-frozen or placed into preservative solutions), apportioned, labeled, and transported to the various laboratories. Demographic and clinical data will need to be collected from patient charts and entered into the database or retrieved for clinical research studies.
