Memorial Healthcare System in Hollywood, FL is seeking a Lab Assistant to prepare specimens, register and accession orders in the Hospital Information System and Laboratory Information Systems, and perform pre-analytical and analytical tasks in alignment with policy.

You will support technologists, assist with bone marrow prep, specimen handling, phlebotomy requests, and maintain a safe, organized work area.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent (Required).
  • Certification in Phlebotomy is preferred.
  • Six (6) months of prior experience as a lab assistant.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares specimens for analysis by registering and accessioning orders via Hospital Information System and Laboratory Information Systems.
  • Performs established pre-analytical and analytical laboratory procedures in accordance with policy.
  • Operates, maintains, and repairs clinical laboratory equipment within training scope.
  • Provides support functions to technologists including loading instruments, preparing reagents, and handling blood products.
  • Assists in preparation and processing of bone marrow specimens and handling of specimens during transport.
  • Performs clerical duties and maintains a safe, aseptic work area.
  • Provides laboratory customer service including specimen collection information and result inquiries.
  • Performs the phlebotomy function to ensure accurate and timely processing of lab test orders.

Summary
Prepares specimens for analysis by registering and accessioning orders via Hospital Information System and Laboratory Information Systems (clinical lab and/or anatomic pathology), verifying specimen acceptability. Performs established pre-analytical and analytical laboratory procedures, not requiring Medical Technologist or Histology Technologist interpretation, in accordance with established laboratory policy in an accurate, safe, and timely manner.

  • 2 days per week.
Responsibilities
Operates, maintains, and repairs clinical laboratory equipment within the scope of training including waived testing, routine preventative maintenance, calibrations, quality control and safety checks.Provides support functions to technologists including the loading and maintaining of instruments, making up of reagents, thawing, pooling, importing, and issuing of blood products, and maintenance and function checks. Keeps appropriate persons informed of instrument problems and resolutions.Assists in the preparation and processing of bone marrow specimens.Assists with receiving, identifying, accessioning, processing and transporting specimens.Performs clerical duties. Also maintains equipment and adequate stock of supplies. Maintains work area in a safe, aseptic and organized manner.Provides laboratory customer service to include request for add-ons, specimen collection information, phlebotomy requests, result inquiry, etc.Performs the phlebotomy function to ensure accurate and timely processing of lab test orders.Competencies
