Job Description

Job Summary

Performs routine technical and clerical functions. Performs venipuncture, specimen receipt and distribution of laboratory specimens; may perform CLIA waived laboratory tests. Responsibilities include specimen receipt and distribution of laboratory specimens, labeling tubes and specimen containers, collecting specimens, and performing simple tests under supervision. Performs phlebotomist duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education:
Lab Assistant I/II: High School diploma or equivalent required. Certification as a phlebotomist preferred.
Lab Assistant III: High school diploma or equivalent required. An Associate’s degree in laboratory, chemistry, biology, or medical related field preferred. Certification as a phlebotomist preferred.

Experience:
Lab Assistant I/II: Must have previous phlebotomy experience – 6 months minimum preferred.
Lab Assistant III: Must have previous phlebotomy experience, 6 months minimum. Leadership experience preferred.

Skills Required:
• Ability to complete blood draws, independently, within six weeks of hire (inpatient and/or outpatient depending upon location, shift, etc.)
• Interpersonal skills necessary to work effectively with all personnel of lab/hospital.
• Manual dexterity, physical health, and visual acuity to perform phlebotomy, accession laboratory specimens, process specimens, and manage any information technology-related tasks.
