NeoGenomics is looking for a Laboratory Assistant I for our Histology Department in Fort Myers, FL who wants to continue to learn in order to allow our company to grow.

This is a full-time, temporary position. Available shift times (subject to change):

  1. Tuesday-Saturday, 6:00am-2:30pm
  2. Tuesday-Saturday, 2:00pm-10:30pm

Position Summary:

The Laboratory Assistant will assist the department technologist in performing various basic laboratory procedures using laboratory equipment to facilitate production. This is an entry-level position in the clinical laboratory job family and employees in this position may not manipulate samples.

Core Responsibilities:

  1. Records the required information in laboratory log books, specimen accession sheets, workflow drafts, etc., to ensure quality assurance of specimens
  2. Performs simple laboratory tasks of operating equipment, printing extra labels, recording data, and specimen storage and retrieval and other clerical duties as assigned
  3. Prepares reagents for laboratory procedures as directed in the procedure manual and under the direct supervision of a certified technologist
  4. Performs various housekeeping and/or maintenance tasks to keep laboratory and equipment in clean and operable condition
  5. Maintains department inventory and orders supplies as needed
  6. Resolves pending lists and finds missing samples
  7. Performs various filing, mailing, and copying tasks as needed
  8. Disposes of biohazardous material according to established procedures
  9. Completes training and competency checklists as needed
  10. Sends and receives cases to and from satellite laboratories
  11. Loads, runs and unloads some automated testing procedures
  12. Assists with the department quality improvement or safety program
  13. Reports problems concerning individual cases, tests, equipment and supplies to laboratory supervisor or lead technologist to ensure timely resolution

Experience, Education and Qualifications:

  1. High School Diploma or equivalent; emphasis on science courses preferred
  2. Previous experience in a similar capacity and knowledge of medical terminology preferred
  3. Basic understanding of laboratory techniques preferred
  4. General knowledge on using MS Office programs
  5. Effective communication skills and strong organization skills
  6. Detail-oriented and willingness to work independently
  7. Must be able to work in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment and maintain production and quality standards
  8. Must be able to work in a biohazard environment and follow safety policies and standards outlined in the Safety Manual
  9. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
  10. No certification required
