Job description

Laboratory Assistant I - Full Time Evenings

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Handle all phases of laboratory specimen collection, processing, and computer documentation.
  • Establish rapport with patients, explaining venipuncture procedures to reduce stress and anxiety.
  • Interact effectively with patients of all ages.
  • Perform reception duties at the laboratory front desk.
  • Collect blood samples via venipuncture and capillary methods for patients ranging from newborns to geriatrics.
  • Order, cancel, collect, receive, process, and distribute specimens promptly and accurately.
  • Properly store specimens for further testing as needed.
  • Assist in training new employees and students.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and supply inventory.
  • Follow laboratory and hospital policies regarding attendance, continuing education, dress code, infection control, and patient confidentiality.
  • Adhere to best practices for patient safety and infection control in accordance with regulatory standards (CAP, CLIA, The Joint Commission).

Candidate Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 1 to 2 years of relevant experience preferred.
  • Venipuncture experience required.
  • Phlebotomy certification preferred.
  • BLS certification required.
