Job summary

NeoGenomics is looking for a Laboratory Assistant in the FISH department in Carlsbad, CA. This is a temporary-status opportunity with a Tue-Sat, 10:00am-2:00pm schedule. Temp-status workers are engaged through a third-party agency and are not official NeoGenomics employees.

The Laboratory Assistant will support technologists by performing basic procedures, recording data, preparing reagents, and maintaining a clean lab environment in a fast-paced setting.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required; science courses preferred.
• Previous experience in a similar capacity is preferred.
• Basic understanding of laboratory techniques preferred.
• MS Office knowledge required; strong organization and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Record information in laboratory logs and accession sheets to ensure specimen quality.
• Operate basic lab equipment, print labels, record data, and manage specimen storage.
• Prepare reagents under supervision of a certified technologist.
• Perform housekeeping and maintenance to keep lab and equipment clean and operable.
• Maintain department inventory and order supplies as needed.
• Resolve pending lists and locate missing samples.
• Handle filing, mailing, and copying tasks.
• Dispose of biohazardous material per established procedures.
• Complete training and competency checklists as needed.
• Send and receive cases to and from satellite laboratories.
• Load, run and unload automated testing procedures.
• Assist with quality improvement or safety programs.
• Report problems to supervisor to ensure timely resolution.
