Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent; science courses preferred.
• Previous experience in a similar capacity and knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
• Basic understanding of laboratory techniques preferred.
• General knowledge of MS Office programs.
• Effective communication and strong organization skills.
• Detail oriented and able to work independently.
• Able to work in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment and maintain production and quality standards.
• Able to work in a biohazard environment and follow safety policies and standards.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
• No certification required.

Responsibilities

• Record information in lab logs and specimen sheets to ensure QA.
• Operate equipment, print labels, record data, and manage storage.
• Prepare reagents under supervision of a certified technologist.
• Maintain cleanliness of lab and equipment.
• Maintain inventory and order supplies as needed.
• Resolve pending lists and locate missing samples.
• Handle filing, mailing and copying tasks.
• Dispose of biohazardous material per procedures.
• Complete training and competency checklists.
• Send/receive cases to/from satellite labs.
• Load, run and unload some automated tests.
• Assist with quality improvement or safety programs.
• Report problems to supervisor for timely resolution.
