Job summary

Kaiser Permanente in Oakland, CA, is seeking an entry-level Unlicensed Laboratory Personnel to receive and process specimens under supervision and perform clerical tasks under the California lab law.

The role includes phlebotomy as needed, patient registration, data entry, and preparing specimens, with no supervisory responsibilities. Onsite position with day shifts.

Qualifications

• Six (6) months of experience preferred.
• High School Diploma/GED.
• California CPT license if job requires blood drawing.
• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
• Ability to write simple correspondence.
• Ability to present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Responsibilities

• Register patients and assess age group and other factors.
• Choose phlebotomy technique and determine if assistance is required.
• May be required to draw blood into computerized systems.
• Enter data such as released test results, patient demographics, physician's name and test requested.
• Relays results to staff as required.
• Prepares specimens for testing.
• Prepares stains and reagents.
• Process specimens including receiving, sorting, labeling, and shipping.
• Maintains printers and faxes, time stamps, and other equipment in the work area.
• Answers telephones and relays released test results.
• Registers patients, and collects fees and bills.
• Gives patients instructions and provides specimen containers.
• Trains and orients new employees as necessary.
• Performs other related duties as necessary.

Essential Functions

• Prior to phlebotomy, registers patients and assesses, for age group and other factors.
• Chooses appropriate phlebotomy technique and determines whether assistance will be required.
• May be required to draw blood into computerized systems.
• Enters data such as released test results, patient demographics, physician's name and test requested.
• Relays results to staff as required.
• Prepares specimens for testing.
• Prepares stains and reagents.
• Process specimens to include receiving, sorting, matching, prioritizing, labeling, and shipping.
• Maintains printers and faxes, time stamps, and other equipment in the work area.
• Answers telephones and relays released test results.
• Registers patients, and collects fees and bills.
• Gives patients instructions and provides specimen containers.
• Trains and orients new employees as necessary.
• Performs other related duties as necessary.
• This job has no supervisory responsibilities

Basic Qualifications
