Job summary

Kaiser Permanente is seeking a Phlebotomy Technician to perform venipuncture and related pre- and post-analytical steps across patient ages. The role involves labeling specimens, transporting to the laboratory, and supporting the testing workflow in a busy environment.

On-call availability is required; duties may include weekend shifts and floating between on-campus and MOB labs. Prior phlebotomy experience and California certificates are preferred, with certification not mandatory at all

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Phlebotomy Technician I Certificate (California) OR Phlebotomy Technician II Certificate (California) required.
• NOTE: SCPMG Regional Reference Lab does not require phlebotomy certification.

Responsibilities

• Perform phlebotomy (venipuncture, finger/heel sticks) on patients of all ages.
• Label samples, transport to the lab, and log test orders per procedure.

Job Summary:

Performs venipuncture and skin puncture and pre-analytical and post analytical steps of laboratory testing.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Upholds Kaiser Permanentes Policies and Procedures, Principles of Responsibilities and applicable state, federal and local laws. Selects the appropriate phlebotomy technique relative to the age and physical maturation of the patient. Assesses the quantity of blood to be drawn from the patient based on the patients age, physical maturation and the test or study to be preformed. Performs venipuncture, finger stick or heel stick, as required, proficiently on patients of all ages. Properly labels sample(s) and transports to laboratory or Clinical Laboratory Scientist as required. Performs the pre-analytical phase of testing by bar coding, centrifuging, separating, logging, culturing and staining of bacteriological specimens. Establishes and maintains courteous, cooperative relations with the public, patients and other personnel. Performs other duties as required including checking in patients, collecting appropriate revenue, accessioning test orders and giving preparation instructions to patients. Handles difficult patients in a professional manner. Displays professionalism at all times, both in attitude and appearance. Follows directives from all supervisors, leads and seniors.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Job related college courses in the life sciences.

Notes:

• This is an on-call position, days and hours may vary.
• This position will be required to float between on campus and outlying MOB labs.
• Will be required to work weekends and possibly assist with bone marrow procedures.
