Job description

Under general direction of the Imaging Supervisor, Radiology faculty, and residents, provide clinical and research imaging technical support for Imaging examinations, instruction of students, administrative support, and maintenance support for the VMTH Equine Magnetic Resonance, Computed Tomography, Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Nuclear Medicine services. Work within general guidelines established by the Radiology faculty and make independent judgments in terms of determining the acceptability of each patient's scan so as to preclude the recall of the patient for further imaging examinations.

RECRUITMENT PERIOD ONE MONTH: Applicants will be screened after two weeks; and then on a weekly basis. The position can be filled prior to the apply by date.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

• Must possess a Veterinary Assistant Controlled Substance Permit (VACSP) or obtain within 3 months of date of hire.
• Experience handling difficult, fractious small animal and equine patients with physical and chemical restraint techniques to prevent them from causing harm to themselves, people, or the facility.
• Knowledge of California Radiation Laws and Guidelines required when using radiation producing equipment, MRI safety and environments, physics and techniques, patient positioning, equipment controls, functionality, and principals for Computed Tomography (CT), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Positron Emission Tomography (PET), and Nuclear Medicine according to established protocols.
• Knowledge of small animal and equine anatomy, and basic physiology to identify abnormal physical signs and appearances of distress, aseptic techniques to assist with aseptic diagnostic procedures, nursing skills to include but not limited to: IV catheterization and surgical preparation.

Preferred Qualifications

• B.S. Degree in an animal related field and/or current California Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) license.
• Experience with MRI, CT, molecular imaging, digital radiology, PACS (Picture Archive Communication System) technologies, and AGFA Enterprise Imaging and Ambra platforms. Extensive equine background.
• Experience with instructing small groups in animal handling, imaging techniques, and diagnostic image quality.
• Efficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint software. Interpersonal, oral and written communication skills to interact with a diverse group of people to include clients, clinicians, students. Work effectively, cooperatively and diplomatically with a variety of people from varied backgrounds.

The Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VMTH) is a unit that provides clinical case material in support of the teaching programs throughout the School of Veterinary Medicine on a 24-hour basis. Its primary objectives are to train professional (veterinary) students, graduate clinical students (interns and residents), and graduate academic students; to provide veterinary services to the public; to serve as a referral center for practicing veterinarians, and to advance veterinary medical knowledge.

Work occasional overtime and various hours on short notice (including covering staff shortages and holiday shifts).
