Under the Laboratory Director's or Supervisor's general supervision, the Histology Laboratory Assistant performs Laboratory procedures in General Laboratory processing and any other duties under the direction of a laboratory supervisor.
Responsibilities- Monitor/inventory/stock supplies and consumables
- Answer Lab phones
- Assist technologists in locating and retrieving/processing specimens.
- Make copies, fax results, and refill printer paper as needed
- Monitor lab expected list in Epic
- Accession all surgical pathology and cytology cases sent by the clinics.
- Verify specimens sent from the clinic that have no labeling discrepancies. If labeling discrepancies are noticed, contact the clinic for verification before processing.
- Fill out RL6 for any discrepancies.
- Process cytology specimens for cytotechnologists to screen.
- Triage slides to proper locations – utilize packing lists when necessary
- Monitor faxes and send slides/blocks to outside facilities as requested.
- File blocks and slides.
- Processor and Stainer maintenance.
- Complete daily maintenance charts and report any defects or malfunctions to lab management.
- Maintain a neat and orderly work area. Dispose of hazardous material and sharps following established procedures.
- Conform to laboratory timekeeping procedures.
- Maintain a safe work environment and conform to all company safety guidelines and requirements.
- Maintain a pleasant, courteous attitude at work and openly communicate with co-workers/supervisor regarding work issues, suggestions, etc.

QualificationsEducation
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Associate degree in biological, life science, or other related field preferred
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Excellent verbal, written, and clerical skills

The compensation for this role includes a base pay range of $16.30-24.50/hr, with the actual pay determined by factors such as skills, experience, education, certifications, geographic location, and internal equity. Additional compensation may be available through shift differentials, bonuses, and other incentives. Base pay is only a portion of the total rewards package.
