Responsibilities

  • Process receipt, registration, order entry and labeling of specimens in the computer system.
  • Resolve specimen submission issues and manage high volumes of calls and paperwork.

  • Assist with esoteric test requests and specimen handling for procedures like FNA or biopsy.

Job Summary

The Laboratory Assistant:

  • Works within compliance and regulatory parameters while completing the receipt, registration, order entry and labeling of a large volumes of specimens in the appropriate computer system.
  • Resolves specimen submission issues.
  • Manages a large volume of telephone calls, filing and distribution of patient information.
  • Maintains logs and scans documents into the electronic medical record.
  • Operates and performs regular preventative maintenance and basic troubleshooting on a variety of departmental instruments.
  • May require the acquired knowledge of esoteric test requests by physicians and involve order entry and processing of these specimens including assisting with specimen handling at FNA and biopsy procedures.
  • Ensures complete accuracy due to the direct impact on patient care.
  • Works independently, organizing work to meet established deadlines.
