Job Description Summary

In the Department of Biological Sciences, challenging science courses are just one part of a holistic approach to learning. Our curriculum integrates traditional study with individual mentorship in the lab and service learning and sustainable projects in the community, for a truly interdisciplinary experience.

This position will help facilitate research of amphibian immunity, supported by a National Science Foundation grant ( IOS : 2147466), awarded to Dr. Leon Grayfer. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to learn how to maintain and breed Xenopus laevis frogs, to master and utilize modern techniques such as cell, tissue and pathogen culture, gene expression analyses, gene editing, recombinant protein production and antimicrobial assays to investigate frog innate immune cell development and functionality, assist in generating reagents and helping perform molecular biology experiments. This individual will join a highly collaborative research group that includes researchers at all educational levels working together towards common research goals.

Duties

  • Assist with Xenopus laevis frog husbandry
  • Assist with Xenopus laevis frog breeding
  • Research in amphibian immunity
  • Assist with supervision of students in the lab
  • Assisting with purchases and expense reporting

Performs other work related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications

Qualified candidates will hold a high school diploma/ GED , or, a Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.

Preferred Qualifications

Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications:

  • A BSc or equivalent degree is required at the start of position.
  • Preference will be given to applicants with prior experience in molecular biology research and/or experience handling aquatic animals.
